Derek Chisora Could Face Former World Champion in Next Fight

Derek Chisora has been away from the ring since a loss to Tyson Fury last December, but he ruled out retirement and has now perhaps found his next opponent.

Chisora has built a record of 33 wins and 13 losses since his pro debut back in 2007, including several titles and two unsuccessful challenges for world honours.

Despite his punishing defeat to Fury, Chisora has shut down questions of retirement, saying he doesn't want to leave the sport on a loss.

Chisora was recently invited on stage at a Misfits weigh-in, where he faced off with Mairis Briedis and the two traded words.

Briedis, a three-time cruiserweight world champion, has been calling for the Chisora fight for a while now, seeing it as a good introduction to the heavyweight scene.

Chisora provided Oleksandr Usyk with 12 solid rounds on his second fight in the top division, which could make him a formidable opponent for Briedis.

Briedis has been out of the ring since a unanimous decision loss to Jai Opetaia in July of last year, and he failed to secure a fight against Jake Paul.

The potential Chisora vs. Briedis fight would be the crossover boxing company's first real step into serious boxing and would land on DAZN as part of their long-term broadcast deal.

Briedis has angled for the fight to take place in Latvia, while Chisora has made it clear he wants to be compensated well.

While Chisora has made a point of saying nothing is signed yet, the staged face-off with Briedis could be a sign that tentative talks have begun.

If the fight does happen, it could be a chance for both Chisora and Briedis to prove themselves in the heavyweight scene and potentially set themselves up for bigger fights in the future.
